Pelames Beach, located in the municipality of Povoação on the island of São Miguel, Azores, has had access to swimming prohibited. This decision was made after the release of the results from analyses conducted on the bathing waters, as communicated by the Municipal Council.
The local authority informed, in collaboration with the Health Delegation, that the temporary prohibition of bathing activity at Pelames Beach was decreed for public health reasons.
The Municipal Council clarified that the restriction is due to the results of the bathing water analyses, which classified the water as unsuitable for swimming. The beach will remain closed until the results of a counter-analysis are released, thus allowing for an evaluation of the possibility of revoking the ban.
The municipality requested the understanding of beach visitors and guaranteed that it will keep the population updated on any developments in the situation.
