Renault has expanded the offering of the Boreal in the Move Brasil – Taxi and Applications program, making it available in four different versions. This expansion occurred after the federal government increased the vehicle financing limit from R$ 150 thousand to R$ 200 thousand.
The mid-sized SUV, which was previously only available in the entry configuration and restricted to taxi drivers, now also caters to digital platform drivers. For taxi drivers, the Techno version was included, costing R$ 147,674, and the Iconic version, priced at R$ 158,480. The Evolution version, which was already part of the initiative, remains available for R$ 131,825.
For application drivers, Renault presents the Evolution for R$ 167,990 and the Techno for R$ 189,990. Other models from the brand, such as Kwid, Kardian, and Duster, are also on the list of eligible vehicles.
There is a price disparity between the two groups: the Boreal Evolution is R$ 36,165 more affordable for the taxi driver. This difference is justified by the distinct benefits granted to each profile.
The taxi driver benefits from the exemption of IPI and ICMS upon purchasing a new vehicle, which reduces the invoice value. In contrast, the application driver does not have access to such exemptions and relies solely on the subsidized interest rate of the program, which is 0.99% per month for men and 0.91% per month for women, lower than the market rate.
Entry requirements also differ. The taxi driver must possess an active license, a CNH with EAR observation, and have registered an IPI exemption request with the Federal Revenue in the last two years. Meanwhile, the application driver needs to prove they have been actively registered on the platform for at least 12 months and have completed at least 100 rides during this period.
The expansion was formalized through a joint ordinance from the Ministries of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services and Finance, published in an extra edition of the Official Gazette on August 19. In addition to the ceiling increase, the regulation now accepts more hybrid configurations, including combinations of electric motors with ethanol, gasoline, or flex fuel propulsion.
With this change, the government projects that the price criterion will reach about 88% of the Brazilian automotive market, compared to approximately 63% previously. This allowed for the inclusion of SUVs, pickup trucks, and electrified vehicles in the program. The list of eligible models and versions now exceeds 170 combinations.
Renault is not the only participant in this movement. BYD had its King, Song Pro, Song Pro Flex, and Atto 2 models approved; GM requested the inclusion of the Captiva EV, valued at R$ 199,990; and Honda sought the Advance and Touring versions of the HR-V. Move Brasil provides up to R$ 30 billion in credit, although the government itself acknowledges that participation fell short of expectations and is studying ways to attract more private banks.
To participate, the driver must access the program's platform using a gov.br account and authorize eligibility analysis, which has a validation period of up to five business days. After approval, the interested party must approach one of the accredited financial institutions to conduct the credit analysis and finalize the contract.
