According to the police, two groups of people attempting to illegally cross the border near Bistrica in northern Bosnia were intercepted on Thursday.
According to the authorities' statement, one of the groups consisted of 40 Pakistanis and 23 Bangladeshis. In a separate operation in the same area, another 33 migrants, including Afghans, Bangladeshis, and Pakistanis, were detained.
The police confiscated two vessels that the migrants planned to use to cross the Sava River, which serves as the natural border between Bosnia and Croatia. Additionally, two guides were identified.
Bosnia is located on the Balkan route, which is frequently used by illegal migrants seeking entry into the European Union. According to the European agency Frontex, over 4900 illegal migrant crossings into the EU via the Balkan route were registered in the first seven months of this year, which is 26% less than in the same period last year.
