Bandai launches Tamagotchi Ring, a smart version of the classic toy in ring format

Bandai announced the launch of the Tamagotchi Ring, a new version of the famous classic toy adapted into a ring format, which can be worn on the finger or as a pendant. This device is already available in Japan and represents the company's initiative to combine the retro charm of the virtual pet with the expanding market for wearable accessories.

Unlike before, when the digital pet was kept in a pocket, it is now more integrated into the user's body. Bandai describes this launch as 'the smallest Tamagotchi device in the world,' measuring approximately 28 millimeters wide, 23 millimeters thick, and 35 millimeters high.

Despite its reduced size, the device features a color LCD screen that displays the pet's visual information, health status, and all interaction functionalities. The product was released in three colors in the Asian market: Pink and Pearl White; Light Blue and Metallic Gold; and Black and Metallic Silver. To cater to various users, the ring will be available in sizes 10 and 14, and the box comes with an extra spacer.

The package also includes the traditional bead chain, allowing the item to be used as a necklace or hung on bags and backpacks. Bandai assures that even with the compact design, the original mechanics and the Tamagotchi Ring experience remain unchanged. This implies that owners retain the old responsibilities, such as feeding the virtual mascot, caring for its hygiene, and interacting with the creature.

The development cycle of the digital pet follows the same pattern: the creature evolves over time and can transform into more than 30 distinct characters. This transformation depends directly on the level of care and attention the user dedicates to the pet. Furthermore, the system also allows for the random appearance of secret characters, serving as a reward for players.

A significant improvement is the inclusion of a rechargeable lithium polymer (LiPo) battery, replacing the coin batteries used in previous generations. Each unit comes with a USB charger. Although the original Tamagotchi was a major cultural success in the 1990s and was popular in Brazil, the appeal of the new Tamagotchi Ring lies in uniting this affectionate memory of the friendly mascot with the practicality of an accessory always close to the owner.

Internationally, stores are conducting pre-sales with prices starting from US$ 54.75, which is equivalent to about R$ 280 without taxes. Currently, there is no forecast for an official sale of the Tamagotchi Ring in Brazil.
