The Copan Viewpoint is open again after being closed to visitors since 2019. Starting this Saturday (the 5th), it will be possible to return to the rooftop of one of São Paulo's most emblematic buildings, offering a privileged perspective of the city center at an altitude of 115 meters.
Initially, the resumption of visits will occur in a 'soft opening' format, limited to Saturdays in September, between 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM. Each visit lasts 40 minutes and costs R$ 50, which differs from the previous free access. The operation is still in the testing phase, and future dates and times will be gradually announced. There are plans to expand operating days and introduce nighttime options.
The main attraction is the view of the Center, which allows observation of São Paulo in 360 degrees, including iconic landmarks in the region, such as the neighboring Edifício Itália. To gain access, the visitor must purchase a ticket online and report to the reception located at Avenida Ipiranga, 200, ten minutes before the scheduled time. Access is granted in groups of up to eight people, respecting the building's elevator capacity.
The final route requires visitors to climb stairs, covering two flights of stairs between the 32nd floor and the rooftop. Due to this access characteristic, the visit is not suitable for wheelchair users and may present difficulties for people with reduced mobility.
The Copan, designed by Oscar Niemeyer and inaugurated in 1966, stands out in the Center for its curved shapes, contrasting with the surrounding rectilinear structures. Currently, the building houses 1,160 apartments distributed across 32 floors, in addition to various commercial establishments.
The reopening of the viewpoint coincides with a period of increased popularity for Copan. The ground floor has been revitalized with new points of interest, such as the Tem Umami ice cream parlor (opened in 2023), joining traditional spots like Bar da Dona Onça (from 2008).
The apartments have also diversified their clientele. After the pandemic, many units were modernized and began being rented for short stays, totaling about 160 apartments in this modality, which host approximately 35 thousand guests annually, with reservations possible via Airbnb.
The reopening of the viewpoint is intrinsically linked to the restoration project of Copan. The building's facade requires extensive work to recover the tiles and other external components. Currently, a screen covers part of the facade, whose removal depends on the progress of the works. The administration estimates that the total cost of the restoration is approximately R$ 68 million, and the revenue generated by viewpoint visits will help finance this renovation.
