The birthday of Lord Krishna is celebrated annually on the day of the eighth lunar month, Bhadrapada. It is on this day that Lord Krishna appeared, so his birth is celebrated every year as Krishna Janmashtami. This year, the festival will take place on September 4th. During the celebration, special rituals are performed to worship Laddu Gopal, and devotional songs and kirtans are held both at home and in temples. According to tradition, the birth of Lord Krishna occurs at midnight during the Rohini nakshatra. According to astrologer Dr. Shripati Tripathi, it is highly advisable to bring certain items into the home during the auspicious moments associated with Janmashtami.
The first item is the flute of Lord Krishna. The connection between Krishna and the flute is considered exceptional, as the flute is an integral part of His divine plays. It symbolizes harmony, tenderness, and love. It is recommended to purchase a wooden flute before Janmashtami and place it next to an image of Lord Krishna in a place of worship. According to religious beliefs, this helps create a calm and positive atmosphere in the home.
The second important element is a statue of a cow and a calf. Since Lord Krishna is also known as Gopal and Govinda, and His childhood was spent among cows in Gokul, cows hold special religious significance in the worship of Krishna. Some families adhere to the tradition of acquiring a statue of a cow and calf for Janmashtami, which should be placed in a clean place, showing respect and reverence towards it.
The third item is the Shri Yantra. In Hindu tradition, the Shri Yantra is considered a sacred symbol associated with the goddess Lakshmi. Since Lakshmi and Narayana are also revered along with Lord Krishna during Janmashtami, it is recommended to bring the Shri Yantra into the home before the festival and install it in a place of worship, observing one's religious customs during the rituals.
The fourth point is the Tulsi plant. Tulsi is recognized as a sacred plant in Hinduism. There is a tradition of offering Tulsi leaves during the worship of Vishnu, and since Krishna is considered an incarnation of Vishnu, Tulsi holds special significance in the worship of Krishna. The Tulsi plant can be planted before Janmashtami and its regular care monitored.
The fifth recommended item is pure clarified butter (desi ghee). During the special worship conducted at the moment of Lord Krishna's birth on the night of Janmashtami, it is customary to light a lamp. For this, pure clarified butter can be prepared in advance. When lighting the lamp with ghee, one should meditate on Lord Krishna and pray for well-being and peace in the family.
