Aditya Birla Group has announced the launch of its wire and cable manufacturing business under the name Ultravolt. This launch is supported by an investment of 1800 crore rupees, and the company plans to operate across all of India, aiming to reach over 100,000 retailers and 5,000 UltraTech sales points.
Ultravolt will hold the second position in production capacity within the wire segment. The company is part of the flagship group firm UltraTech Cement and aims to become one of the top two companies in the industry within five years by establishing a national brand.
UltraTech's entry into the wire and cable market expands the company's participation in the construction value chain, moving beyond grey cement, ready-mix concrete, building materials, and white cement, aligning with its strategy to provide construction solutions. Furthermore, it allows UltraTech to participate more deeply in the growing demand in housing, infrastructure, and electrification sectors.

Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of the $72 billion Aditya Birla Group, noted that wires and cables are becoming a key element of India's next phase of development. He emphasized that they stand at the intersection of three major trends in the Indian economy: urbanization, electrification, and digitalization. The construction of over 100 million new homes in the coming decade, expansion of energy infrastructure, and rapid growth of data centers are expected to stimulate a boom in this category. Birla added that their unique advantage lies in a deep understanding of the product, its components, and adjacent ecosystems.
He also stated that the successful creation of a new business has become an integral part of the group's DNA and an important source of differentiation. Birla views Aditya Birla Group as a platform and driving force for new initiatives.
Ultravolt is the fourth new business vertical launched by the group in the last three years, following launches in paints (Birla Opus), B2B e-commerce (Birla Pivot), and jewelry retail (Indriya), where Shah Rukh Khan serves as the brand ambassador.
Birla explained that the group's expansion into new areas is driven by two factors: strong structural tailwinds supporting long-term category growth, and the opportunity to transform the market using its brand, capital, scale, and deep ecosystem knowledge. He believes the wire and cable market meets these criteria as it is an established and growing category with clear drivers of structural growth.
Upon its launch, Ultravolt will offer a full range of wires, cables, and conduits, with plans for gradual expansion across the entire spectrum of kilovolts (kV), specialized cable applications, and a wider range of electrical accessories.
Strategy and Expansion Plans
Dilip Gaur, Director of Ultravolt, stated that the company is entering the pan-Indian level, rather than testing the market region by region. Their plan involves reaching over one hundred thousand retailers and further increasing accessibility through more than 5,000 UltraTech Building Solutions (UBS) points. The initial ambitious plan includes covering over 500 districts and 6,000 postal codes, underscoring the company's commitment to growth and innovation.
The operation is based at a new manufacturing facility in Jagadia, located in the Bharuch district of Gujarat state. The plant, with a capacity of 1,098,000 kilometers, began commercial production on September 1, 2026.
Sriram Rangarajan, CEO of Ultravolt, stated that they will start with a portfolio of domestic wires, flexible wires, and cables intended for residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure needs. Future plans include expanding the range with a broader selection of electrical accessories.
Birla added that Ultravolt will strive to differentiate itself not only on price but also on product quality, technology, availability, and customer service level.
