These outages come amid rumors that OpenAI is preparing its next major model, GPT-6 Astra, which could potentially replace GPT-5.6 models with GPT-6.
According to reports, the problems affected ChatGPT across web, mobile, and desktop platforms. Similar failures were observed with Claude, and Grok experienced service issues.
What is happening?
People worldwide began reporting that ChatGPT and OpenAI's coding tool, Codex, were non-functional. Some users retained access to existing chats, while others could not create new dialogues or received error messages such as 404 Not Found. Reports came from various countries, indicating a systemic problem rather than an individual internet connection failure.
A 404 error means that the application requested information from the server, but the server responded that the requested resource was not found. In this case, it could have been caused by a problem in OpenAI's systems, but the 404 message itself does not provide a precise understanding of the nature of the breakdown.
Around the same time, users also reported problems with other major artificial intelligence services, including Claude and Grok. The service did indeed experience technical difficulties previously, but OpenAI's official status page currently indicates full system functionality. The status history shows that ChatGPT Work Mode recorded a high level of errors on Thursday, after which the affected services resumed operation.
