The first stage of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system has been commissioned in Tashkent on Shakhrisabz Street. A lane measuring 1.2 kilometers was allocated for buses, which is physically separated from the main traffic flow.
This section extends from the roundabout at Shakhrisabz Street, Mirabad, and Shota Rustaveli to the intersection with Amir Temur Avenue. Six new stops were installed in this area, and the bus lane was isolated from the rest of the roadway using curbs.
During construction work, the old foundation was dismantled on certain sections to a depth exceeding two meters, after which it was reformed. Geotextile was used to ensure structural stability and prevent ground subsidence. Meanwhile, traffic in both directions along the street was not interrupted.
This launch is only the first part of the entire project. It is planned that the BRT line will be extended further along Shakhrisabz Street, reaching a total length of about 3 kilometers. The goal of implementing the new scheme is to increase the speed of bus movement and reduce their dependence on congestion in general traffic.
Previously, information indicated that the opening of the first BRT section on Shakhrisabz Street was expected by the end of August, and construction work started on July 24.
