The exhibition 'Uzbekistan: Heritage in Motion' has opened in Doha (Qatar), dedicated to the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan and the influence of Islam on its formation. This project is the result of cooperation between the Fund for the Development of Culture and Arts and the Museum of Islamic Art.
The exposition consists of four thematic sections and unites 36 unique items taken from seven major museums of Uzbekistan, as well as from Qatar's collections. The presented artifacts cover the period from pre-Islamic era, through the Samanid and Timurid times, up to the present day, including examples of traditional textile art and crafts. Among the exhibits, visitors can see Afrosiyab's wall painting, the Quran 'Katta Langar', manuscripts from the Institute of Oriental Studies, as well as samples of Bukhara ceramics and national costumes.
Saida Mirziyoyev, Head of the Presidential Administration, who participated in the opening of the exhibition together with Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, emphasized that this exhibition provides residents and guests of Qatar with an opportunity to learn about the history and heritage of Uzbekistan, which is another step in strengthening cultural ties between the two countries.
The public program of the event includes lectures, presentations, and master classes dedicated to traditional crafts. Artist Davlat Toshev will conduct a series of master classes for local visitors and artists on the 'Abru-Baxhor' technique and Eastern miniature within his residency, scheduled from September 3 to 16 upon prior registration.
Simultaneously with the opening of 'Uzbekistan: Heritage in Motion', the exhibition 'Ektashif Uzbekistan' took place. This exhibition resulted from a trip by seven artisans from Qatar through Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara. Inspired by Uzbek culture, these masters created jewelry, texts in ancient calligraphic style, carpets, and also presented photographs taken during their journey.
Visitors can view the 'Uzbekistan: Heritage in Motion' exhibition at the Museum of Islamic Art until November 28, 2026.
