More than 80 migrants died en route to the Canary Islands

More than 80 people, including an infant, are presumed to have died during the crossing that began 26 days ago. The route for this journey was from Gambia with the final destination being the Canary Islands in Spain.

The vessel was found drifting south of the Canary Islands. According to the publication 20 minutos, there were five bodies and 45 survivors on board.

These latter reported to rescue teams that the ship departed from the country of origin with a total of 128 people on board.

The rescue group spotted the vessel on Tuesday afternoon by one of the Spanish Maritime Rescue aircraft, approximately 120 kilometers from Gran Canaria.

The rescue team managed to save all 45 passengers, but due to the sea conditions, they had to leave five bodies on board the vessel.
