Zhipu AI lists token subscriptions on Tmall, bringing model usage into retail

Zhipu AI has opened a flagship store on the Tmall platform, offering four token packages for the GLM Coding plan, with prices ranging from 118 to 1,078 yuan. This marks the first instance where a publicly traded company has placed its core artificial intelligence products on the main shelf of e-commerce, making token purchases as simple as topping up a mobile plan.

The store, registered under the name Zhipu Huazhang Technology and based in Beijing, began operations on September 2. Available packages include a monthly personal plan priced at 118 yuan with 10,000 weekly credits, and a Max plan for 1,078 yuan with 140,000 credits, in addition to a team plan costing 598 yuan per seat. Users can choose payment on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis, aligning with the offerings on the company's official website.

These plans operate on the GLM-5.3 model, released in early August, and support over 20 coding agents, including ZCode, Claude Code, and Codex. In late July, Zhipu transitioned its Coding Plan to a credit system tied to token consumption, stating that limit calculation had become 'more transparent and predictable.'

This retail move signifies a rapid product normalization. The Coding Plan, launched in September 2025, was previously distributed on a January basis following a sharp surge in demand driven by GLM-4.7, which forced developers to compete for quotas. Subscriptions returned to open sale on July 31 with the new credit system—having moved from being hard to access to always available on Tmall in about seven months.

This development occurs amid growing momentum. Zhipu, the world's first company whose shares are listed as a 'large-scale model' after its listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in January, reported first-half revenue of approximately 954 million yuan, representing a 399.7% increase compared to the previous year. Revenue from platforms and APIs accounted for 86.5% of the total, up from 15.2% a year earlier.

This change reflects a broader trend in China, where daily token requests exceeded 140 trillion in March 2026, more than a thousand times higher than at the beginning of 2024. Telecommunications operators have already launched retail token plans. Tokens placed near smart speakers and AI phones in the developing consumer goods zone with AI on Tmall are becoming a consumer good suitable for mass promotions such as Double Eleven.
