Diverse weather conditions are anticipated across South Africa on Thursday. Some regions are forecast to experience warm and sunny weather, while the Western and Eastern Cape provinces will face severe weather phenomena.
The South African Weather Service forecast shows a sharp contrast: most of the northern and eastern regions will remain warm and predominantly dry, whereas the southern provinces will experience more unstable conditions.
The KwaZulu-Natal province is preparing for another hot day, with temperatures reaching very high levels in some areas. Meanwhile, the Western and Eastern Cape should be prepared for strong winds, rain, and potentially disruptive weather.
Weather in the Northern and Eastern Regions
Gauteng, like Mpumalanga, expects good and warm weather, with temperatures in some parts of Mpumalanga rising above hot levels. Limpopo will follow a similar pattern, offering warm and pleasant weather, which will become hot in parts of Lowveld and the Limpopo Valley.
KwaZulu-Natal will be within good and warm, and in some places, very hot weather. The province is expected to remain mostly dry, although isolated showers and thunderstorms may occur in the far south by evening.
North West and Free State will see variable cloudiness and warm weather, with the possibility of isolated showers and thunderstorms. The western parts of the Free State are under a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms, which could cause localized wind and hail damage, falling trees, and excessive lightning.

Severe Conditions in the South and West
The Western Cape is expected to be cloudy, windy, and cool or cold, with scattered rain and showers becoming widespread along the southern coast and adjacent inland areas. From noon, near-stormy winds may occur along the southwest and west coasts, as well as over the Central Karoo, and a Yellow Level 4 warning for destructive rainfall is in effect in the Overberg, Garden Route, Langeberg, and Lyngsburg municipalities. This warning indicates the probability of road and settlement flooding, as well as serious disruptions to traffic flow.
The Eastern Cape will also face unstable conditions. The western half of the province will be cloudy and cool with widespread showers and thunderstorms, while the eastern half will start with good and warm weather before becoming cloudy. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected, which will become widespread along the coast and adjacent inland areas south of Coffee Bay.
A Yellow Level 2 warning for destructive rainfall has been issued in parts of the Eastern Cape along the southern coast and in the eastern parts of the province.
In the Northern Cape, the weather will be variable cloudiness, windy, and warm or hot, with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the west and far south, as well as isolated storms in the east and south. It will be cool or cold in the west.
The Northern Cape province, along with parts of the Western Cape, is also facing destructive winds. The South African Weather Service warns of possible power outages, communication failures, and other service interruptions, as well as hazardous conditions for high-altitude transport.
