Foundation preparation for reactor completed at the NPP construction site in Jizzakh region

The excavation for the reactor building at the site of the future integrated nuclear power plant (NPP) in the Jizzakh region has been fully completed. Over one million cubic meters of soil have been removed since the start of the active construction phase, and 916 cubic meters of concrete have been laid on the area where the foundation slab will be located.

The progress of this large-scale project was presented to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The total estimated cost of the NPP reaches $9.5 billion. Currently, 450 specialists and over 100 units of specialized equipment are involved at the construction site.

Requirements for localization and regional development

Currently, the share of domestically produced goods is estimated at 21%, corresponding to an amount of $1.9 billion. The President instructed to increase this indicator to at least 30% and ensure that 65% of the construction and installation works are transferred to national enterprises. It is planned that the project will create jobs for about 7 thousand local residents.

In addition, a proposal has been put forward in the Farish district to create an industrial zone of at least 200 hectares, which should include 100 joint ventures. A satellite city, designed for a population of 33 thousand people, is also planned for the employees of the NPP and their relatives.

Earlier, an agreement was announced between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan on developing joint cooperation in the fields of nuclear, radiation, and environmental safety, which will be applied during both the construction and operation of the NPP.
