SBI warns customers: UPI will be disabled for one day for maintenance

Customers of the State Bank of India (SBI) using UPI for withdrawals have received an important notification from the bank. It was announced that the UPI service will be temporarily unavailable for one day, meaning no payments can be made during this period.

The bank stated that the UPI service would be temporarily suspended on September 4, 2026, to carry out maintenance work. This information was posted by the bank on its social media channels.

SBI clarified on its social media channels that its UPI services would be temporarily halted from 12:30 to 13:15 on September 4, totaling 45 minutes. The bank emphasized that this stoppage is part of planned maintenance and advised customers to account for this time when planning digital transactions.

In case of urgent need during this period, SBI offered an alternative—UPI Lite. Through UPI Lite, transactions for small amounts can be made without needing to enter a UPI PIN. The transaction limit for UPI Lite set by SBI is up to 1000 rupees, and the maximum UPI Lite balance is 5000 rupees.

SBI has set specific limits for UPI operations. The bank allows 20 P2P (person-to-person) transactions daily, while P2M (person-to-merchant) transactions are regulated by the UPI merchant value limit. The standard UPI merchant limit is 100,000 rupees. The total daily limit for P2P and P2M is set at 100,000 rupees.

These limits can be increased for certain categories of merchants. Transactions related to insurance and stock markets can reach 200,000 rupees, and for IPOs (ASBA), Retail Direct Schemes (RDS), tax payments, hospitals, and educational institutions, the limit can be up to 500,000 rupees. Furthermore, SBI supports fund transfers via the UPI corridor between India and Singapore, allowing transactions equivalent to 1000 Singapore dollars.
