Ahead of the festive season, Amazon India has announced the creation of over 160,000 seasonal jobs across its pan-India operational network. These positions are designed to support the company's e-commerce business and rapid delivery operations.
According to the company, these opportunities cover direct and indirect roles in 400 cities. These include major metropolitan areas as well as second and third-tier cities such as Varanasi, Kochi, Jalandhar, Ghaziabad, Ranchi, Salem, and Gorakhpur.
Amazon also emphasized that these vacancies will provide opportunities for thousands of women and employees with disabilities. These workers will participate at various stages of order fulfillment, including picking, packing, shipping, and delivery. The majority of seasonal workers have already been hired by the company, and the necessary training to perform the job has begun.
Seasonal employees will have access to safety, welfare, and benefits programs provided by the company. These include a safe and inclusive workplace, as well as social, financial, and occupational safety measures. Through the Samridhi program, the company will help employees joining its operational network register on the e-Shram portal and gain access to government social security and welfare schemes.
Recently, Amazon launched the Sammaan welfare program for couriers in its logistics network. This initiative includes scholarships for employees' children, support in obtaining government subsidies and financial integration programs, insurance coverage, and road safety measures.
Abhinav Singh, Vice President of Operations for Amazon India, APAC, Middle East, Africa, and Turkey, stated that the expansion of staff will help strengthen the company's capabilities in order fulfillment and logistics, ensuring smooth operations during the festive season. He added that many of these employees continue working with Amazon after the holidays, while others return to work annually.
Amazon India has over 1.7 million sellers registered on its platform, and its fulfillment centers are spread across 15 states, providing more than 43 million cubic feet of warehouse space for seller goods. The company operates sorting centers in 19 states, along with a network of nearly 2,000 delivery stations managed by Amazon and partners. Furthermore, it has 28,000 'Hub delivery' delivery partners and thousands of Amazon Flex partners.
