In the city of Banda, Uttar Pradesh state, relatives brought a 20-year-old girl to Boberu Hospital after she complained of abdominal pain. Examinations revealed that the girl was pregnant and it was time for labor. She successfully gave birth to a healthy baby at the medical facility.
However, chaos ensued in the hospital after the baby's birth because the girl and her family refused to take the newborn home. The situation was reported to the police, who then notified the Child Helpline and the Child Welfare Committee, and the child is being transferred to the district hospital.
The incident occurred in the Kotwali area of Banda. On September 1st, the 20-year-old girl was brought to CHC Boberu by her relatives due to stomach pains. Medical staff checked the young woman's condition and determined that she was pregnant and ready for delivery. Following this, the hospital team conducted the delivery procedure.
After the healthy baby was born in the hospital, panic began as the girl and her relatives stated they did not want to keep the newborn with them.
The hospital administration, assessing the seriousness of the event, immediately notified the police. Upon arrival, ASP Banda Shivaj and other police officers questioned the doctors and the girl's family. During the interrogations, it became clear that the relatives did not wish to take the child with them.
ASP Shivaj stated that the police received a memorandum from CHC Boberu regarding the birth of the child by the 20-year-old girl. He clarified that for unknown reasons, the mother and her family decided to give up the child. The police took custody of the newborn and notified the Child Helpline. The child is being transferred to the Banda district hospital, and the Child Welfare Committee and other relevant bodies have also been informed.
According to the police, the process of transferring the child under the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act has begun according to established rules. Responsible child welfare organizations will now determine the future and care of the newborn. The police continue the investigation to ascertain the circumstances under which the girl and her family refused the child.
