Currently, only one student is enrolled at the state primary school in Pedabandapalli village, which belongs to the Manyam Mandal in Andhra Pradesh district. At the Mandela council primary school, located in Reddi Vidi village, only Mekla Arvind is registered, studying in the second grade.
Despite this, teacher Gauranaidu regularly conducts lessons at the school. It is reported that two students attended this school last year. One of them moved to the third grade and enrolled in another school, leaving Arvind as the sole student.
In fact, education in this school is only provided up to the second grade. Therefore, the student who was supposed to move to the third grade had to seek education in another school.
Even though there is only one student in the school, the teachers are fulfilling their duties, and Arvind's education continues. Additionally, another staff member is responsible for tasks related to school nutrition and cleaning.
Local residents are expressing growing concern about the condition of the village school. Residents note that many children used to attend this school, but the number of students has gradually decreased, and now only one student attends. Residents fear that if the number of students continues to decline, the school may be closed or merged with another school.
The situation at this Pedabandapalli school demonstrates a serious problem facing state schools in rural areas. Due to family migration from villages and children enrolling in other educational institutions, the number of students in state schools is constantly decreasing. Under these conditions, maintaining the operation of schools with low enrollment and ensuring access to education close to the children becomes an important issue for the entire education system.
