Employees of disability center in Andijan fired after reports of torture

A scandal has emerged in the Andijan region concerning the 'Gamhorlik' center, which is intended for children with disabilities and is located in the Kurgantepinsky district. The investigation was initiated after video recordings appeared on social media on August 31, demonstrating cases of physical and psychological violence against the pupils.

Specialists from the regional department of the National Agency for Social Protection conducted an investigation based on these published materials. As a result of the investigation, employment contracts with six educators and one nurse were terminated. Furthermore, the center's management was held accountable for insufficient control over staff activities.

Additional measures have been implemented to ensure the safety of children at this institution. Medical workers from the territorial medical association examined all pupils, and new video surveillance cameras were installed on the center grounds and playgrounds.

The 'Gamhorlik' centers were created as part of a large-scale reform of the social protection system, based on former 'Muruvvat' boarding schools. Currently, relevant authorities continue to establish all the details of what happened, relying on official requests.
