Sensex fell by 700 points, Nifty near 23,800; auto and IT stocks showed worst results

Overall, the Nifty MidCap index declined by 1.06% and the Nifty SmallCap index by 0.87% in the markets.

The Nifty50 and Sensex indices traded lower due to concerns over inflation and rising interest rates in global stock markets.

As of 9:18 AM, the Sensex dropped by 723.44 points, representing 0.94%, reaching the level of 76,220.84. Meanwhile, the Nifty50 decreased by 226.35 points or 0.94%, settling at 23,829.45. Among the main losers in the Nifty50 index were Infosys, Eicher Motors, and Shriram Finance.

By sector, the Nifty IT index showed a decline of more than 2%, performing worse than other sectoral indices. The Nifty Auto and Nifty FMCG sectors also weakened. In contrast, the Nifty Pharma and Nifty Healthcare sectors posted gains.

Market Overview: All Sectors Traded in Negative Territory

Today, all sectoral indices traded in negative territory, with IT and auto being the sectors that showed the worst performance.

Additionally, it was noted that the Nifty Midcap 100 index lost 1.16%, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 fell by 0.97%.

Most Sensex stocks declined during the opening of trading, with Adani Ports and Sun Pharma being the only exceptions. Earlier, at the market open, the Sensex fell by 706 points or 0.92% to 76,238.

Nifty 50 opened with a dip, falling below 23,850, against the backdrop of rising bond yields and oil prices. Before the market open, the Nifty 50 was at 23,877, down by 178 points or 0.74%. Previously, in the preliminary session, the BSE Sensex fell by 547 points or 0.71% to 76,397.

At the same time, the rupee opened slightly higher against the US dollar, rising by 4 points to 94.91 compared to Tuesday's close at 94.95 per dollar, according to Bloomberg data.

The GIFT Nifty was recorded at 24,009, which is 82 points lower.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex benchmark increased its figure by 36.84 points or 0.05 percent, reaching 76,994.11 by the end of the pre-market session.

According to Bloomberg data, the rupee opened 14 points stronger against the US dollar, reaching 95.03, compared to Monday's close at 95.17.

Kotak Securities noted that Computer Age Management Services (CAMS) and Kalpataru Projects International are under focus for short-term prospects, as analysts have observed positive factors for these stocks.

ITC, Happiest Minds, ICICI Bank, PVR Inox, and Cipla shares were also in the spotlight.
