A video of seven-year-old Ragini from Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, has gone viral on social media. In the video, she is shown jumping to get to school despite her leg injury. Due to poverty, her family could not afford proper treatment or buy crutches. Ragini walks about half a kilometer to school.
Ragini lives in the village of Ranipur, located in the Digheda gram panchayat, Manier block of Ballia district. She is seven years old and studies in the first grade at Digheda primary school, which is located 400 meters from her home. Her leg was seriously injured in a road traffic accident when she was only six months old, but the family's financial difficulties prevented her from receiving adequate medical care.
Currently, she covers this difficult 400-meter journey to receive an education. When Ragini saw other children going to school, she cried, wishing to study. Now, even though she attends school, she often sits on the ground and cries during the journey, wondering about the accident that happened to her.
Her father and mother, Babita Devi, are laborers and are very poor. According to the school principal, Amit Pal Yadav, Ragini faces great difficulty attending school, so she urgently needs government assistance, a prosthesis, or a tricycle.
The principal stated that because of Ragini's late enrollment, she could not benefit from a previous program, but her registration is now complete. As soon as the issue came to the attention of the authorities, the district official Mangla Prasad Singh sent a team of doctors and disability specialists to the site. The district official gave a full promise to provide the family and Ragini with all possible support at the administrative level so that her education can continue.
