According to data published on Monday, the number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has exceeded 6,000, with nearly 3,000 deaths recorded.
Local authorities reported that as of Saturday, 6,041 confirmed cases were registered in six provinces of the DRC, including 2,911 fatalities. This resulted in an overall fatality rate of 48.2%, while 1,366 patients recovered.
This outbreak affected 60 health zones in provinces such as Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Auto-Uele, Bas-Uele, and Tshopo.
The current epidemic, declared in May, is the largest and deadliest Ebola outbreak in the country's history, and the second largest in the world after the 2014–2016 epidemic in West Africa.
