The monsoon season continues across the country, entering its final phase, and is becoming active before concluding. The Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and wind gusts in several states on September 2.
According to IMD data, regions such as Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Assam, Tripura, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu are expected to experience deteriorating weather conditions on Wednesday. In some areas, wind speeds may reach 40–80 kilometers per hour.
The Meteorological Department notes that a low-pressure area formed over the Ganges West Bengal and the adjacent North coasts of Odisha, Jharkhand, and the Northwest Bay of Bengal may shift in a northeast and northwest direction over the next 48 hours. This phenomenon is likely to intensify precipitation activity in central and eastern India. The IMD's 7-day forecast indicates that this period of rain in early September will not end immediately; the monsoon will remain active in central and eastern India, with heavy rains also possible in northern and hilly states.
In the nation's capital, Delhi, and surrounding areas, strong winds and rain are forecasted for the evening of September 2. During this period, wind gusts of about 50 kilometers per hour are expected. In Delhi, the maximum temperature is anticipated to be 32 degrees Celsius, and the minimum 26 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning strikes in parts of Haryana and Chandigarh. Rain and strong winds of 40–50 kilometers per hour are expected in the areas of Faridabad, Jind, Kaithal, Rewadi, Yamnagar, Sirsa, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Gurugram, Fatehabad, Hisar, Jhajjar, Sonipat, Panipat, and Palwal.
Weather in Uttar Pradesh will also be unstable. The warning for rain and storms extends to Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad, Gotambhadh Nagar, Saharanpur, Azamgarh, Sonbhandr, Maharajganj, Mirzapur, Ballia, Deoria, Siddharthnaganj, Muradabad, Kanpur, Rampur, Mainpuri, Lalitpur, Sitapur, Bahraich, Kannauj, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, and Kushinagar. Strong winds of 65 to 70 kilometers per hour are expected in these areas. Lucknow is forecast to have a maximum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius. There is also a possibility of heavy or very heavy rainfall in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Several districts of Bihar are also under threat of heavy rains. These include Siwan, Gaya, Jahanabad, Patna, Buxar, Rohtas, Kamur, Madhepura, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Supaul, Saharsa, Banka, Munger, and Jamui, where heavy rain is possible. Strong winds of about 70 kilometers per hour and a risk of lightning strikes are expected in these locations. Patna is forecast to have a maximum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius.
A warning for torrential rain has been issued in Jharkhand for Ranchi, Ramgarh, Pakud, Jamtada, Dunga, Hajharibagh, Giridih, Jamshedpur, Hunti, Paschim Singhbhum, Lohardaga, Saraikela, and Gumla. Strong winds of 55–60 kilometers per hour are expected here. In West Bengal, the warning for heavy rain and storms covers Howrah, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Paschim Medinipur, Bankura, Kolkata, Alipurduar, Durgapur, and Kuchbihar, with wind speeds potentially reaching 60–65 kilometers per hour.
The probability of prolonged rainfall remains in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. In Uttarakhand, the rain and strong wind warning is in effect in Pithoragarh, Nainital, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudprayag, Haridwar, Tehri Garhwal, Rishikesh, and Bageshwar, where winds of about 60 kilometers per hour are expected. Heavy rains are predicted in Chamba, Kangra, Sirmaur, Kullu, Shimla, Kinnaur, Solan, and Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. The danger of flash floods and landslides is increasing in the hilly regions. Jammu and Kashmir has also issued a warning for heavy rain and storms in Jammu, Riasi, Raur, Ramban, Gulmarg, Poonch, Pulwama, and Kupwara, where winds of 60–70 kilometers per hour are expected.
