The leading OTT platform JioHotstar has announced its entry into international markets, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Singapore. The goal of this move is to connect with the South Asian diaspora and expand the company's global presence.
According to JioHotstar's statement, the platform will offer over 160 thousand hours of content in more than 12 languages. Among the offered features are personalized recommendations and flexible subscription options. JioHotstar's assortment will cover television programs, films, regional shows, documentaries, children's content, and anime.
Amit Malhotra, Head of International Business at JioStar, noted that over the last decade, streaming services have primarily competed based on the size of their catalog. He believes that a more significant opportunity lies in rethinking how viewers perceive entertainment—not just what they watch, but how they discover, engage with, and shape that experience in real time.
Malhotra emphasized that the South Asian audience has a deep connection to Indian entertainment, regardless of language, generation, or household. He added that the global audience is increasingly seeking stories and cultures beyond their own. The company sees an opportunity to serve this broader and underrepresented global audience, rather than simply exporting an Indian streaming service to new territories.
Furthermore, JioHotstar is introducing quarterly subscription plans in these three international markets, offering users a shorter access option alongside annual plans.
The streaming company reported that the international launch will begin with a diverse lineup of entertainment content, including new original projects, iconic franchises, and extensive television content.
The entry into the UK, Canada, and Singapore marks the next stage of the company's development, which includes presenting not only its entertainment catalog but also its product experience, technology, and vision for the future of streaming to a global audience.
It is worth noting that JioHotStar India has an average monthly user base of 500 million people and a library comprising over 3 lakh hours of program content in 19 languages. This content includes films, original projects, live sports broadcasts and events, as well as anime, children's entertainment, and TV shows from over 100 channels.
