GTA 6 will not include microtransactions or generative AI at launch, reports suggest

Grand Theft Auto VI will not feature microtransactions at the time of its release and also did not utilize generative artificial intelligence during its development phase, according to information disclosed after recent visits by journalists to Rockstar North in Scotland.

This information was relayed by Andy Cortez and Greg Miller of Kinda Funny following a conversation with Rob Nelson, co-head of the Rockstar North studio. The presenters reported that the executive responded negatively when specifically questioned about these two topics.

The exclusion of generative AI usage was also mentioned in an article published by The New York Times. This media outlet indicated that Rockstar placed great emphasis on the work done by people in creating GTA 6.

One piece of data illustrating the scale of the project lies in the animations; Rockstar stated that GTA 6 has over 600 thousand animations. For comparison, GTA 5 had about 55 thousand animations, while Red Dead Redemption 2 reached approximately 300 thousand.

This announcement comes at a time when the use of generative AI in the gaming sector has generated intense debates in the industry, including recent discussions during Gamescom 2026.

According to the Kinda Funny report, GTA 6 will also not allow real-money purchases upon its debut. It is important to note that this information is limited to the initial launch and does not establish Rockstar's future plans for additional content or services.

This issue attracts special attention due to the history of GTA Online, which uses so-called Shark Cards to enable the purchase of virtual currency via real-money payment.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, with availability for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. The original article on this topic was initially published in Olhar Digital.
