The American animated comedy film 'Toy Story 5' will be screened in Tehran as part of the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF). The premiere is scheduled for Thursday, September 3, 2026, in the IAF's Nasseri Hall.
This film, which was dubbed into Persian, starts at 18:00. It is the fifth main installment in the 'Toy Story' series and a continuation of 'Toy Story 4' (2019).
IAF to screen “Toy Story 5”
The plot of 'Toy Story 5' unfolds two years after the release of the fourth film. In it, the main character Jessie, along with Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and other toys, confronts the appearance of a tablet named Lilipad, which becomes Bonnie's new favorite toy.
The animation addresses the theme of how children are increasingly abandoning traditional toys in favor of touch-screen devices such as tablets. Jessie admits that she 'is losing Bonnie because of this device.' Andrew Stanton explained that 'Toy Story 5' represents 'the realization of an existential problem: that no one is truly playing with toys anymore,' raising the issue of the significance of increased screen time for children. The toys are forced to figure out how to remain relevant in a world where technology changes the rules of the game.
The film features actors such as Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack, who return to their roles. They are joined by Conan O'Brien, Scarlett Pirz, Greta Lee, Shelby Rabara, Michael-Michelle Harris, and Craig Robinson. Franchise composer Randy Newman returns to write the music, marking his tenth collaboration with Pixar, and Taylor Swift contributed to the soundtrack with the song 'I Knew It, I Knew You.'
With a budget of $250 million, 'Toy Story 5' is one of the most expensive animated films and also one of the most expensive films of all time. As of August 30, 2026, the film has grossed $478.8 million in the US and Canada, and $657.6 million in other territories, reaching a worldwide total of $1.136 billion. This allowed it to break several box office records and become Pixar's most successful weekend debut.
'Toy Story 5' ranked third in earnings among films of 2026, became the highest-grossing film in its franchise, and the tenth highest-grossing animated film. Like its predecessors, it received positive reviews from critics who highly praised the visuals, acting, humor, and theme, although some noted a weak script.
