To minimize inconvenience for residents during Navratri, Dussehra, and Diwali, the UP government will launch a special campaign to address electricity issues starting September 15. This campaign will run until October 14 and will include inspecting and repairing damaged wires, transformers, and other electrical equipment affected by rain and hurricanes.
In recent months, the electrical infrastructure has been under significant strain due to a combination of heat, rains, and storms. Weakened wires and equipment malfunctions have been found in several areas, and complaints about frequent power outages have been received. Preparations are now underway to rectify these deficiencies before the holidays to ensure a continuous power supply.
To carry out this work, the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation has issued directives to all power distribution companies, requiring them to prepare a comprehensive plan for each territory by September 10. Necessary materials will also be pre-stocked to prevent interruptions in repair work.
The campaign will involve checking 33/11 kV power supply centers, large transformers, and transformers installed in residential areas. In addition to cleaning, necessary repairs will be conducted. Where frequent failures occur, the work will not be limited to simple wire connections; an attempt will be made to identify and eliminate the root cause of the failure. Furthermore, dilapidated wires, loose connections, and faulty equipment will be replaced. Appropriate protective wiring will be installed on transformers according to their capacity. All temporary wire fastenings will also be removed.
Tree branches are also a cause of power outages
Power supply is often interrupted when tree branches collide with power lines during storms. Therefore, a large-scale trimming of tree branches around power lines will be carried out. Measuring instruments connected to power line poles will also be inspected to promptly detect any energy supply irregularities.
Instructions have been given to avoid power cuts during the holidays. If a shutdown is necessary for work, it will be planned to cause the least inconvenience to people.
To ensure the campaign is not just on paper, officials will conduct surprise inspections of power centers without prior notification of the inspection location. This will allow for an assessment of the actual state of the power supply system on site. Completed repairs will also be checked. A review at the level of power distribution companies, as well as oversight from the headquarters, will take place from October 21 to 27.
The goal of this campaign, starting September 15, is to reduce public discomfort caused by electricity problems during the holidays. It is essential to promptly fix all faults that occurred after the rains to ensure a stable power supply from Navratri to Diwali.
