Three distinguished names in the history of Trinidad and Tobago cricket—Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, and Sunil Narine—have now become part of the historic Queen's Park Oval. A special tribune has been named in honor of these players at the stadium, which they themselves inaugurated on Monday.
This mark of recognition was presented during a ceremony organized by the Queen's Park Sports Club (QPCC). The club was celebrating the 64th anniversary of Trinidad and Tobago's independence. Previously, this tribune was known as the Trini Posse Stand.
The recognition was given to the three athletes for their contribution to promoting the heritage of Trinidad and Tobago in international and franchise cricket. Bravo, Pollard, and Narine have now joined the list of selected cricket legends whose names are assigned to features of this historic ground.
This venue already features landmarks such as the Brian Lara Pavilion, the Derrick Murray Player Gallery, the Geoffrey Stelmeyer Stand, the Larry Constantine Stand, the Gary Gomez Media Centre, and the Cyril L. Dupré Stand.
Bravo, Pollard, and Narine forged their unique identity in the shortest format of cricket. They achieved numerous records and significantly influenced T20 cricket over a long period. Kieron Pollard is among the most successful T20 players globally, having played over 700 T20 matches. During this time, he scored over 14,000 runs and took more than 330 wickets, proving useful to teams both in attack and defense.
Dwayne Bravo also set a record in T20 cricket that kept him at the top for a long time. He concluded his T20 career by taking 631 wickets. At the time of his retirement, he was the best bowler in men's T20 cricket. Furthermore, Bravo contributed to the format by scoring around 7,000 runs, indicating his versatile contribution beyond just bowling.
Sunil Narine also reached a major milestone. He recently became the second bowler in T20 cricket history to surpass 650 wickets. Narine has also established himself in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), becoming the player with the most wickets taken there. Through his economical spin bowling and ability to score quickly in attack, Narine has proven his value in T20 cricket over an extended period.
Bravo, Pollard, and Narine have left an impressive legacy not only in international cricket but also in the Indian Premier League (IPL). All three remained among the most discussed and successful foreign players in the IPL for a long time.
