Following the official introduction of Pitso Mosimane as the head coach of the Bafana Bafana national team, SAFA president Danny Jordan stated that the new coach's salary remains confidential information.
At the presentation ceremony, held on Tuesday morning at the SAFA headquarters in Johannesburg, SAFA president Danny Jordan announced that the Association had officially presented Mosimane. Previously, at the beginning of last month, the SAFA National Executive Committee (NEC) decided to offer Mosimane the Bafana coaching position.
However, Mosimane only signed the contract several weeks after declining the initial offer of 5 million rand per year. This came after it became known that the previous coach, Hugo Bruus, earned around 16.8 million rand annually.
Speaking before the Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture, the Association reported that it subsequently offered Mosimane an improved annual salary of 10 million rand, which, according to reports, was accepted by his team along with other conditions.
Despite the remuneration issue remaining relevant, Jordan, who officially introduced Mosimane, along with Chief Executive Officer Lidiya Monyepao, who oversaw the contract negotiations, remained silent regarding the coach's fee.
Jordan emphasized: 'No, we are not answering the question about the coach's salary. If you want to ask the coach, he is here. If he wants to disclose his salary, that is his business. If you disclose your salary, then you can ask him. It is not a question.'
Mosimane, returning to the national team after 14 years since his first stint, successfully managed to bring trusted assistants Kabelo Rangoaagi and Musi Matlaba. Information about the third assistant and the new goalkeeper coach will be announced later.
The 62-year-old specialist returned to Bafana with immense club success, including over 21 trophies, such as three CAF Champions League titles. High expectations are linked to the fact that his experience and results match his salary.
