Unlike in India, where children often attend private tutors or learning centers after finishing school, one 12th-grade student studying in the US shared her study experience, which differs significantly from that of Indian students.
In a video published on the 'Sarika in America' Instagram account, the student explained that the culture of private lessons is absent in America. Instead, students utilize the 'Student Hours' system.
When asked how children learn and resolve their doubts without private tutoring, Annushka replied that there is no culture of tutoring in the US. If a student has questions after school hours, they go to the teacher's office to clarify their doubts, and the teacher assists them at that moment rather than conducting separate courses.
When asked whether American students rely solely on teacher hours or focus more on self-study, she responded that independent work is present, but teachers review the educational material throughout the week to ensure all topics are fully understood by the students.
In the video, the student noted that if difficulties arise in understanding any question or subject, students have the opportunity to seek help from their teacher, which usually eliminates the need to attend extra classes or hire tutors, as is often observed among students in India. According to her, students try to resolve their issues directly at school. Nevertheless, she acknowledged that the practice of attending regular classes or tutoring outside the school curriculum is very common in India, especially for exam and entrance test preparation.
