Capitec adds secondary listing on A2X after reaching market capitalization of R532 billion

Capitec, South Africa's largest retail bank serving over 26 million active customers, plans to add a secondary listing on A2X Markets within the next week.

The secondary listing, currently valued at R532 billion on the JSE, will provide investors with an additional regulated venue to trade Capitec shares. The company stated that this should expand investor access and support liquidity.

Capitec's Chief Financial Officer, Grant Hardy, noted that this 'supports our commitment to creating shareholder value by providing access to an additional trading venue and increased liquidity.'

A2X, launched in 2017, is a licensed stock exchange that allows companies to conduct secondary listings and provides investors with an additional platform for trading shares. Over 160 securities and instruments are registered on this exchange.

Capitec will maintain its primary listing on the JSE, and the total issued share capital will remain unchanged. The bank joins a number of other South African banking groups with secondary listings on A2X, such as Absa, Investec, Nedbank, and Standard Bank.

Strong Results

This listing comes after another year of strong growth for Capitec. The bank reported a 23% increase in gross profit to R16.8 billion for the year ending February 2026, with return on equity rising to 31%.

At the end of the year, Capitec had assets of R263.3 billion and employed 17,672 people across 885 branches. The active customer base was 25.8 million at the end of February and has since grown to over 26 million.

The number of mobile banking app users reached 15.3 million, representing a 19% increase. When publishing its annual results, the company emphasized its focus on strengthening resilience during uncertain times. It was noted: 'We prudently build reserves so we are never caught short when our customers are under pressure. Our simple, focused business model allows us to avoid the complexity that puts others at risk.'

A2X CEO, Kevin Brady, stated that the exchange 'is pleased to welcome Capitec to A2X. Capitec has established itself as one of South Africa's leading banking groups, and its listing further strengthens the diversity and depth of the A2X market.'
