CCA Tashkent, the first permanent contemporary art center in Uzbekistan, will have its grand opening in Tashkent on September 6. This center is located in a historic building that previously served as a diesel station and tram depot, and was constructed in 1912.
The architectural design of the building on Amir Temur Street was developed by Wilhelm Heinzelmann. In 2019, this facility was transferred to the Fund for the Development of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan, and the reconstruction work was carried out by the French architectural bureau Studio KO. During the renovation, the architects paid attention to preserving the industrial style of the structure.
The center is conceived as a multi-purpose venue where various activities are planned: exhibitions, film screenings, concerts, performances, as well as events related to design and literature. Additionally, the complex will feature a library, a restaurant, and a concept store. Visitors will be able to access the space six days a week.
The first exhibition at CCA Tashkent is titled 'Hikmah' and is dedicated to the concepts of wisdom, spirituality, and material transformation. This exhibition is scheduled to run from September 6, 2026, to January 31, 2027, and admission will be free. Previously, there was information that the opening of the renovated Center was supposed to take place in March, but the date was changed due to events that occurred in the Persian Gulf region.
