The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority has completed road development and maintenance work in the Al Jazzat and Al Hazana districts, coinciding with the start of the new academic year in schools across the UAE on Monday.
These projects are part of the authority's continuous efforts to strengthen Sharjah's road network, improve traffic flow, and enhance safety for drivers and all road users.
The work included updating and developing asphalt layers on both directions of the roads, as well as repainting and renewing road signs.
In the Al Jazzat district, the work covered a section of 785 meters, serving an area of approximately 7,000 square meters. In Al Hazana, the project spanned 730 meters and covered an area of about 6,500 square meters.
The Authority stated that these improvements will help ensure safer and more efficient roads for residents and visitors, contributing to smoother movement in these two zones.
The completion of these projects comes amid increased traffic volumes due to the return of students, school buses, parents, and other passengers to the roads. On August 31, over 1.277 million students returned to more than 1,180 schools across the UAE.
Sharjah Police had previously announced several measures in anticipation of the new academic year, including increased patrolling on roads and intersections near schools, managing peak hour traffic, and more thorough checks of school buses. The forces also urged drivers not to obstruct school entrances and to adhere to traffic regulations.
Broader preparations for the start of the academic year also included a significant increase in capacity on key routes connecting Sharjah and Dubai. Two additional lanes were opened on a five-kilometer stretch of Emirates Road towards Wadi Al Amardi, increasing the total number of lanes from six to eight.
This expansion is expected to increase road capacity by approximately 33 percent and reduce peak hour travel times by 25 percent.
The work in Al Jazzat and Al Hazana is part of Sharjah's ongoing investments in road development and maintenance projects aimed at improving connectivity, reducing congestion, and creating safer routes for students, parents, and all road users throughout the emirate.
