A video showing two women wearing burqas arriving at Cooper Hospital in Mumbai is circulating widely on social media. A verbal altercation occurred between these women and the security staff of the hospital, which is managed by the BMC.
The security personnel refused the women entry, citing instances of child theft. According to available information, a woman named Zehra Sheikh, who is a lawyer, arrived at Cooper Hospital to visit a relative undergoing treatment there. She was accompanied by a friend, and both women were dressed in burqas.
Upon reaching the main entrance of the hospital, Zehra and her friend were stopped by the guards. The guard told them that child thefts occur at this location and demanded they remove their burqas. Zehra refused to comply, calling the demand a violation of her dignity, privacy, and right to religious freedom.
The video went viral on Monday, sparking public discussions on social media regarding patient access to the hospital based on their appearance or religion. As of now, the hospital administration has not made any official statements regarding this video.
