India is preparing for a decrease in rainfall in September, signaling an early end to the monsoon season due to overall low precipitation.
According to a statement by IMD on Monday, the total monthly rainfall across the country in September, which is the last month of the monsoon season, is likely to be 'below normal.' This indicates a high probability that the four-month rainy season will conclude with an overall deficit of accumulated rainfall for the period from June to September, as previously predicted due to the influence of El Niño.
Although the sowing of most seasonal crops is nearly complete, the cultivated area has decreased by approximately 2 percent compared to the same period last year; the low rainfall in September will lead to increased costs for farmers, as they will have to spend money on irrigating already planted crops.
