The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif met in Bishkek on August 31 to discuss the further development of bilateral cooperation and the acceleration of joint projects, according to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.
At the beginning of the talks, Mirziyoyev congratulated Pakistan on its upcoming chairmanship in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. The sides noted that Mirziyoyev's visit to Islamabad in February of this year and the high-level meetings held during it have given a new impetus to relations between the two states.
The leaders discussed expanding trade, economic and investment interaction, as well as developing transport and logistics links. Special attention was paid to interregional cooperation and humanitarian ties. Uzbekistan is preparing to host the Forum of Regions in Khiva this year, and Pakistan plans to hold Uzbek Culture and Cinema Days.
Following the negotiations, the sides agreed to adopt a joint 'roadmap' aimed at accelerating the implementation of projects in the textile industry, medicine, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and other priority areas.
