Nowadays, almost everyone has a smartphone, which has brought significant changes in connectivity and payment methods. Millions of people transact through UPI, making cashless transactions very simple. However, crores of people in the country still use feature phones, which make it difficult to use the internet and new applications. To provide UPI payment facility to such users, PhonePe has launched the UPI 123Pay service. With the help of this service, feature phone users will also be able to send and receive money without the internet.
Through this service by PhonePe, users whose phones do not support the internet or modern apps can also make digital payments. This allows them to send and receive money without the internet, making cashless payments easier for feature phone users.
PhonePe's UPI 123Pay service works without an internet connection, requiring no internet connection. This service provides UPI payment facility even on feature phones. Users can use their mobile number to send money, and payments can also be made via UPI ID. Users can also check their bank account balance and view transaction history. In the future, PhonePe is also working on adding features like bill payments, mobile recharge, and Aadhaar-based UPI registration to this service.
PhonePe is making this service available with feature phone brands like Nokia, HMD, Lava, and itel with the aim of reaching the maximum number of people. It is possible that this feature may appear in other feature phone brands in the future.
To start the UPI service on a feature phone, it is first necessary to open PhonePe's 123UPI service. After this, the user has to select their bank. Subsequently, information such as the last 6 digits of the debit card and the card's expiry date needs to be entered, after which the UPI PIN must be set. Once the registration is complete, UPI transactions can be done from a feature phone even without the internet. This means that digital payments can now be simpler than ever for those who do not have a smartphone or internet access.
