Chinese scientists analyzed plant remains extracted during excavations of burials at the Xiaoche necropolis, located in the Tarim Basin. Researchers managed to determine that in addition to wheat and millet, ancient inhabitants of this region sometimes placed seeds of hairy field chickpea in burial urns.
According to information presented in the scientific journal Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports, the age of these artifacts is estimated to be approximately 3500 years old.
