India's GDP Growth Reaches 7.8% in First Quarter Despite Tariffs and Geopolitical Tensions

The rapid pace of India's economic development was not halted even by the conflict between the US and Iran, as confirmed by GDP growth data for the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year. According to data published on Monday, significant dynamics were recorded in the economy.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation reported that India's real GDP growth in the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year was 7.8%. Furthermore, nominal GDP for the same period increased by 10.3%.

The Indian economy surpassed all forecasts, demonstrating a higher growth rate in the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year. Previously, many economists had predicted growth in the range of 7.1–7.2% for the April-June period, but the Indian economy exceeded these expectations. Compared to the same quarter last year, the growth rate of the Indian economy was 6.9%.

It is important to note that this GDP growth figure for India was achieved amid a complex global environment characterized by supply chain crises and energy shortages. Regardless of concerns about tariffs, other geopolitical tensions, rising energy prices, or uncertainty in world trade, the country's GDP growth rates remained high. In these conditions, domestic demand served as the key support for economic activity. Government capital expenditures, as well as the manufacturing, construction, and export sectors, also contributed to the growth.
