The use of artificial intelligence devices is widespread today, simplifying many tasks. However, with this comes an increasing risk of confidential data leaks. Cameras installed in public places now have the ability to detect people, allowing any individual to be easily tracked.
Given this problem, an artist from Berlin has developed a regular Hawaiian shirt in such a way that large AI cameras cannot correctly identify the person wearing it. This article discusses this shirt and the artist who created it.
The digital artist Simon Vikert, residing in Berlin, Germany, created this shirt. It confuses AI surveillance cameras, preventing the camera from correctly detecting the person. This allows for some degree of protection of one's privacy from the outside world.
Modern video surveillance systems have become very advanced. They are equipped with numerous sophisticated features, from video quality to human detection systems. AI cameras recognize a person by analyzing elements such as body shape, head, shoulders, and legs. Based on these features, the camera understands that a person is in front of it. But the question arises: what exactly about this shirt prevents the camera from correctly detecting the person?
The digital artist from Berlin developed this shirt after conducting numerous tests. The various colors and patterns on the shirt were carefully considered. Thanks to the bright colors and unique patterns, this shirt disorients AI cameras. A person wearing this shirt looks completely normal. However, for the AI camera, the shirt pattern can display the human body in various and random shapes, causing the person standing in front of the camera not to look like a human properly.
Simon Vikert used the help of an AI system to create this design. Trial-and-error processes were applied during development to create patterns that could confuse AI cameras. After the shirt was made, it was tested using an open-source AI object detection system called YOLO. During the testing, it was determined how easily the AI system could detect a person wearing this shirt.
