The Indian Consulate in Dubai has issued a warning to Indian citizens residing in the UAE regarding fraudulent schemes that offer services for visa legalization, issuance of emergency certificates, exit permits, Emirates ID, and employment through unauthorized agents.
In a consultative message released on August 31, the consulate reported receiving information that several Indian citizens, particularly low-level workers, are falling victim to individuals who falsely claim to be able to assist with immigration and documentation matters.
The fraudsters, it is alleged, demand that victims provide their passport, Emirates ID, and biometric information, including scans of their face, eyes, and fingerprints. This data can then be used to conduct financial transactions, open bank accounts, or obtain loans and credit cards without the knowledge or consent of the victims themselves.
The consulate added that such misuse could result in victims becoming liable for financial obligations and unknown transactions, potentially leading to fines, travel bans, and, in some cases, imprisonment.
Indian citizens were strongly advised not to hand over passports, Emirates IDs, biometric data, or personal and financial credentials to unauthorized individuals or agencies.
The message specified that biometric data required for obtaining an exit permit, Emirates ID, or visa legalization must only be provided at official government institutions and points in the UAE. Applicants should not give this information to private individuals, agents, or third-party service providers who allegedly have authority from UAE authorities.
Furthermore, the consulate clarified that neither the Indian Consulate in Dubai nor the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi requires applicants to provide scans of fingerprints, faces, or eyes for the issuance of passports or emergency certificates.
The warning emphasized: 'Any person or agent demanding such biometric data on behalf of the Embassy is committing fraud and should not be considered.'
Indian citizens approached by unauthorized agents demanding biometric information or Emirates ID were advised to contact the Pravasi Bharatiya Sahayata Kendra at the toll-free number 80046342, via WhatsApp or SMS at 00971543090571, or by email at pbsk.dubai@mea.gov.in.
In conclusion, the consulate urged residents and visitors to verify the credentials of any individuals or agencies offering immigration-related services and to immediately report suspicious activity to the consulate or relevant UAE authorities.
