Chinese automotive giant GWM is expanding its lineup of the popular SUV Haval Jolion by releasing a new version called Jolion Max, which is intended for the South African market.
The Jolion Max was unveiled at the Motoring Festival in Kyalami last weekend. This new variant looks significantly different from the standard Jolion and Jolion Pro models. The overall length of the Jolion Max is 4,590 mm, which is 120 mm longer than its counterparts, but it is 113 mm shorter than the H6.
For this reason, the Jolion Max will not replace the Jolion Pro when it arrives in South Africa in the fourth quarter of 2026; instead, it will serve as a bridge between the Jolion Pro and the H6, and the pricing will reflect this positioning.
The Jolion Max is 120 mm longer than the Jolion Pro. Although, like its counterparts, the Jolion Max is a five-seater vehicle, it offers increased trunk space—international specifications indicate a volume of 560 liters—as well as likely more legroom due to the 10 mm extended wheelbase.
A GWM representative in South Africa told IOL that the Jolion Max will enter the South African market in three powertrain configurations: Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), hybrid, and plug-in hybrid. The base model with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine will produce 105 kW of power. The hybrid version is also expected to reach a combined output of 140 kW, similar to its siblings.
The Jolion Max cabin is equipped with a large dual-screen display and a floating central control unit, while the gear selector has been moved to the steering column to create additional storage space. The large central screen measures 12.3 inches and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Final specifications and prices for South Africa will be announced closer to the model launch.
