Tata Power Renewable increases renewable energy project portfolio to 12.3 GW with new project in Tamil Nadu

Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Ltd, has completed the commissioning of its 100-megawatt (MW) group solar project (TNGC-2). This project is located in the villages of Keiyatar, Vellankottai, and Nalandhula in the state of Tamil Nadu.

With the launch of this facility, TPREL's total utility project portfolio has reached 12.3 gigawatts (GW), surpassing the previously achieved operational capacity milestone of 7 GW, which strengthens the company's position in India's transition to clean energy.

The generated electricity will be supplied to TP Solar Ltd (40.625 MW), a Tata Power division involved in manufacturing high-efficiency solar cells and modules; Tata Electronics Private Ltd (53.125 MW), an electronics manufacturing company specializing in semiconductors and precision engineering; and Tata Realty And Infrastructure Ltd (6.25 MW), a Tata Group real estate and infrastructure development company. This underscores the commitment of the Tata Group companies to sustainable practices and accelerates India's shift to clean energy.

This project is designed to generate 240.63 million units (MU) of clean electricity annually and is expected to offset approximately 1.5 lakh tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

A significant aspect of the project is the first implementation of single-axis tracker technology compatible with rough terrain (FTC) in India under the Tata project. The project is equipped with 261,660 Mono PERC bifacial solar modules and is designed to maximize energy generation by increasing operational efficiency under various terrain conditions.

This project demonstrates TPREL's expertise in executing large-scale solar initiatives through engineering excellence, application of best construction practices, and constant attention to quality. The generated energy will be transmitted via the Kayathar 400 kV substation (GSS), ensuring reliable transportation and efficient delivery of renewable energy to beneficiary companies.

The company's operational capacity of 7 GW includes over 5.7 GW of solar assets and 1.3 GW of wind energy. Furthermore, TPREL has another 5.3 GW in various stages of development, including 2.2 GW of solar and 3.1 GW of wind projects, which are planned for phased commissioning over the next six to twenty-four months.

This project further solidifies TPREL's standing in the transition to renewable energy in India and reflects its continuous commitment to providing innovative, high-quality renewable energy solutions that support the country's goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. The company possesses extensive experience in managing large renewable energy assets, overseeing a wide portfolio of projects that include utility-scale solar installations, floating solar power plants, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

The Chairman of NTPC, Gurdeep Singh, announced on Thursday that the company plans to increase its operational capacity to 244 gigawatts and foresees capital expenditures of ₹16.86 trillion by 2037. These plans are aimed at strengthening the entire energy value chain.

Singh noted that the next decade will be one of the most significant growth periods in NTPC's history, as India's electricity demand will continue to rise amid economic expansion and improved living standards.

Speaking to shareholders at the company's 50th Annual General Meeting (AGM), he emphasized that the energy system structure will undergo rapid changes. He specified that the long-term power ambitions have been increased, with the goal now being to reach a generating capacity of 149 GW by 2032, including 60 GW of renewable energy, with the aim of reaching 244 GW by 2037, excluding energy storage.

NTPC's current capacity is around 91 GW. Furthermore, the chairman stated that the company plans cumulative capital expenditure of approximately ₹16.86 trillion until FY37, which will be distributed across thermal, hydro, pumped storage, renewables, battery storage, mining, and nuclear power. He added that this will be one of the largest investment projects undertaken by an Indian energy company.

NTPC's transformation goes beyond simply increasing generation capacity. The company is also developing competencies across the entire energy chain. Regarding nuclear energy, Singh called it one of the most crucial areas for NTPC's future growth, which aims to capture a 30% share of the ambitious national target of 100 GW of nuclear capacity by 2047 under the Nuclear Energy Mission.

NTPC, which is developing a 2.8 GW nuclear project in Rajasthan in a joint venture with NPCIL, is also interested in establishing standalone nuclear projects. Singh reported that studies and discussions are underway regarding an additional 34 sites in 13 states for nuclear projects and technologies. He stressed that atomic energy will complement both renewable and thermal generation, providing reliable, low-carbon electricity around the clock.

Going further, the chairman informed about the good progress of NTPC's synthetic natural gas project based on coal gasification. He noted that the project is developing with a capacity of 5.75 lakh tonnes per year. After launch, it will be the first such plant in India and will directly replace imported natural gas.

The NTPC Group achieved a record consolidated profit after tax of ₹27,546 crore in FY26, which is 15 percent higher than the previous year. The Group's EBITDA also increased to ₹60,564 crore, and the Group's net worth grew to approximately ₹2.03 trillion.

Hindustan Power completes financing for 300 MW solar project in Uttar Pradesh

Hindustan Power announced the financial close of its 300 MW solar project in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The company stated that the project is progressing according to schedule and is intended to strengthen the growing renewable energy capacity in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the statement, Hindustan Power received loan approval of INR 1,135 crore from IREDA for its 435 MW/300 MW solar project located in Lalitpur district, Uttar Pradesh.

This project has a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) and was awarded to Hindustan Power following a competitive tender in 2025. It is among the largest solar projects being implemented in Uttar Pradesh and will contribute to meeting the state's growing energy demands through clean generation.

Ratul Puri, Chairman of Hindustan Power, noted that Uttar Pradesh is facing increasing energy demand amid growing attention to renewable energy sources, and projects of this scale will play a key role in strengthening the state's clean energy base.
