The planning of a dedicated route between Delhi and Noida International Airport in Jewar continues to develop. According to sources, the Noida Authority has approved a revised final route for an expressway spanning approximately 50 kilometers that will connect Delhi with Jewar Airport. This project is estimated to cost around 400 billion rupees and aims to improve transport connectivity between Delhi and Jewar Airport, as well as reduce the load on the existing road network.
According to the Noida Authority's plan, the expressway will start near the Akshardham Temple in Delhi and extend to Noida International Airport. Approximately 27 kilometers of this 50-kilometer corridor will pass through the Noida area. The main highway is planned to have six lanes, while entry and merging sections will be expanded to eight lanes depending on needs, which will facilitate traffic management during peak hours.
Sources report that the responsibility for the construction and maintenance of this expressway will fall to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Currently, the project is in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage. NHAI will conduct geological surveys along the proposed route to assess soil bearing capacity and suitability for construction. Initially, the expressway's preliminary route was planned parallel to the Yamuna River embankment.
However, the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department expressed concerns regarding potential flood threats and structural safety related to the embankment. Following this, the proposed route was shifted by about 5 meters towards Noida. According to sources, the Noida Authority has now given final approval for this modified route. The primary access route for this expressway will be a 120-meter road running along the Yamuna River embankment in Noida, Sector 94.
Upon completion of this expressway, travel time from Delhi to Noida International Airport in Jewar is expected to be reduced to approximately 60–70 minutes. This will provide residents of areas such as Mayur Vihar, Patparganj, IP Extension, Kalindi Kunj, and Sarita Vihar with direct and fast access to the airport. The proposed corridor can also connect to Faridabad via the Manjavali bridge. Furthermore, it will be integrated with several major expressways and road networks in the NCR region, making this 50-kilometer corridor a vital element of future Delhi-NCR transport infrastructure.
Planning the connection of Jewar Airport to the NCR is not limited to the road network. At the beginning of this month, NCRTC submitted a proposal for a 72.44-kilometer transit corridor connecting Ghaziabad with Noida International Airport. This corridor includes 11 Namo Bharat stations and 18 local metro stations. The Namo Bharat stations are intended to provide fast intercity travel, while the local metro stations will simplify short trips between Ghaziabad, Noida, and the airport. According to the NCRTC proposal, this corridor will connect the Ghaziabad Namo Bharat station on the Delhi-Meerut line with Jewar Airport. Most of this corridor will be built on an elevated structure, with approximately 71.5 kilometers being elevated and 1.29 kilometers underground. Nevertheless, both projects are currently in the planning phase.
