Eleventh leopard caught in Muradabad; fear persists after four deaths in villages, including Balia

Leopard terror continues in the Takurdwara area of Muradabad city. Another leopard attack occurred in the village of Baliya, resulting in the death of a woman. The woman went to the field to gather fodder when she was attacked by a leopard. Following this incident, an atmosphere of horror descended upon the village. To date, three people have died from leopard attacks.

The woman's death caused significant concern among the villagers. Particularly alarming is that this is the second case of death from a leopard attack in the village of Baliya. After two women died in one village, fear among residents intensified. People have started avoiding visiting the fields. Residents note that the constant leopard attacks cause them unending fear of attacks.

Upon receiving information about the incident, forest service teams arrived at the scene. The department is conducting continuous search operations to locate the leopard. Traps have been set up in the village and surrounding areas to catch the leopard, and modern technologies, including drones, are being used to track its activity. Forest service teams have also been deployed to ensure the safety of the residents.

According to the Director of Forestry (DFO) of Muradabad, the woman was going to the field for fodder when she was attacked by a leopard. He urged residents not to go to the fields alone and to exercise extreme caution. Forest service teams continue the campaign to capture the leopard.

According to the forest service, during the rescue operation, 9 leopards and one cub were caught, totaling 10 captured leopards. Nevertheless, this third death in the village of Baliya has increased both the complexity of the task for the forest service and the anxiety of the residents.

The West Bengal government issued a clarification regarding rumors circulating on social media concerning a death in the Indus area of Bankura district. The government posted a statement on X, specifying that on the night of August 13, an alleged attack by a group of individuals occurred at the home of Sheikh Abdul Hafiz, known as Rick.

This incident is linked to the fact that that morning, Rick visited the Karisunda Pashpara primary school to inquire about the condition of the school facilities. As a result of this event, his father, Sheikh Mohammed Mafik, sustained minor injuries that required stitches.

On the morning of August 15, Mafik was hospitalized at Bardhaman Medical College due to sharp fluctuations in blood pressure. Although doctors did not find fatal wounds during the examination, Mafik passed away that same night. Following his death, false reports began to spread claiming that Mafik's death was the result of a brutal assault.

The police categorically deny these allegations. The Bankura police initiated an investigation based on a registered First Information Report (FIR) and have arrested eight people so far: three mentioned in the initial complaint and five others detained later. All accused were remanded to 8 days of police custody. Two suspects remain at large, and the police have increased security around Rick's house.

This case has gained significant political resonance. Ashutosh Ranka, leader of the Kokroch Janata party, traveled from Delhi to the village of Karisunda to meet with the Hafiz family. He issued an ultimatum to the West Bengal government within 10 days, demanding the arrest and imprisonment of all accused, or he would organize a siege of the district administration building. Ranka also demanded that the police investigation be conducted under judicial supervision.

The family claims that the attack on Mafik occurred due to Hafiz's connection with the CJP, but the police have not yet linked it to any political affiliation. Hafiz declined financial assistance from the party and instead demanded the construction of a school in his father's name, which Ranka promised to fulfill.

The arrests were made following a written complaint by Mafik's wife, Hasina Begum, in which she named five individuals and stated that between 10 and 15 people participated in the attack. The accused were presented in the Bishnupur court. The Bharatiya Janata Party denies any organizational link to this attack.

CPI(M) leader Shatrup Ghosh also met with the family and criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party. Meanwhile, Trinamool leader Dola Sen stated that his party possesses complete information regarding the individuals involved in the attack and that they are connected to the Bharatiya Janata Party. Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari rejected the involvement of the Bharatiya Janata Party, stating that the accused are criminals and will be brought to justice according to the law. Central minister Sukanta Majumdar called for an impartial investigation into the matter, while Minister Agnimitra Paul emphasized that the culprits would not be spared.
