The Red Cross of Macau made donations intended to support flood victims, sending one million yuan (equivalent to 128 thousand euros) to Tibet and 50 thousand dollars (corresponding to 43,380 euros) to Nepal.
Nepalese authorities released a new balance indicating that the sudden flooding on the border between Nepal and Tibet resulted in at least 788 deaths.
In addition to financial contributions, the Red Cross of Macau established two specific bank accounts with the aim of raising funds. The institution appealed to the population of the Chinese semi-autonomous region to provide aid and support emergency relief efforts in the affected areas, as well as to meet the urgent needs of those affected.
The Red Cross of Macau expressed its deep sorrow over the calamity, offering condolences to the victims and extending its sincere solidarity to the families and all those impacted by the disaster.
Caritas of Macau is also organizing an account to receive donations for Nepal. The institution's director requested public contributions for this cause.
However, Paul Pun Chi Meng acknowledged that due to the current economic situation, it may be difficult to raise large sums of money.
Last Saturday, the governments of Hong Kong and Macau announced their intention to donate a total amount of 9.35 million euros to assist Tibet. John Lee Ka-chiu disclosed in a Facebook social media post that the authorities have reserved 50 million Hong Kong dollars, equivalent to 5.5 million euros, for these projects.
Additionally, the Government of Macau declared that it would donate 30 million yuan (3.85 million euros) to the Tibet region through the Macau Foundation, aiming to support post-disaster assistance actions and rescue work.
In an official statement, the Government of Macau committed to making every necessary effort to support the area affected by the catastrophe, including medical assistance, and to actively collaborate in subsequent recovery processes.
Sam Hou Fai, the Chief Executive, sent a message to the Tibetan authorities expressing his deep regret for the victims and offering condolences to the families and all those affected by the flood.
The government also requested the active participation of all segments of Macau society to contribute to recovery efforts and support the affected population, allowing them to return to normal life as soon as possible.
Finally, the National Coordination Council of Non-Resident Nepalis of Macau informed the TDM channel, in its Portuguese version, that it plans to collect resources and funds to help the country.
