Review of Agricultural Activities for the Week of August 31 to September 3

A number of agricultural events are scheduled for the week of August 31 to September 3. The organization Food For Mzansi, in collaboration with Overberg Suid-Kaap, will hold days for farm workers to provide them with knowledge and skills to improve their professional qualities. These events will take place on September 22 at Bredasdorp Park and September 23 in Oudtshoorn.

On Monday, August 31, the South African Food Future Conference will be held. This is the first event of its kind in the country that will bring together the entire spectrum of the agricultural and food economy—from the farm to the boardroom, from the research laboratory to the supermarket shelf. Key speeches from industry leaders and panel discussions shaping national food policy and innovation will be presented at the conference. The event is scheduled for September 30 at The Centurion Hotel.

On Tuesday, September 1, Open Days for Agricultural Skills Transfer will take place. Participants can familiarize themselves with the Agri Skills Transfer programs, meet the team, explore the learning environment, and learn why they believe agricultural education should go beyond just textbooks and theory. The open days are held on September 19, 2026, October 10, 2026, and November 14, 2026. Advance registration is required as space is limited.

On Wednesday, September 2, the Food For Mzansi Farmer's Day in the Western Cape will take place. Farmers in the Western Cape have been long awaiting this event. The next provincial Farmer's Day from Food For Mzansi will be on Friday, October 30, at Pine Haven Farms in Stellenbosch. Farmer Sydney Klassen will host participants for a full day, offering practical knowledge, industry contacts, demonstrations, and opportunities to learn about agricultural innovations.

On Thursday, September 3, the Commonwealth Agricultural Conference will be held. It is worth noting the 31st Commonwealth Agricultural Conference in Cape Town, South Africa, organized by Agri-Expo from November 1 to 5, 2026. Agricultural leaders, innovators, and change agents from across the Commonwealth will gather to determine the future of sustainable agriculture. A Pre-Conference Tour (October 29–31, 2026) is also available, which is an exclusive opportunity to personally experience South Africa's agricultural excellence before the main conference.

On Friday, September 4, there will be a Cattle Auction. The National Dormer auction will take place on September 5, 2026, at 11:00 in Geelklip, Middelwater. The auction will feature 50 Dormer rams and 100 Dormer ewes.
