Experienced all-rounder for the Indian women's team, Deepti Sharma, has achieved significant success. In the group stage match of the Women's Asian Cup against Thailand, held on Sunday (August 30), Deepti took three wickets without conceding any runs in the same over (1.1 overs).
Thanks to this achievement, Deepti has become the bowler with the most wickets in women's T20 International. She now has 171 wickets in 150 women's T20I matches. She surpassed Tipacha Puttavong, who previously had 170 wickets.
This match was particularly significant for Deepti as she played her 150th T20I match. Thus, she became the third Indian female cricketer to play 150 or more T20I matches. Before her, this milestone was reached by Harmanpreet Kaur (203) and Smriti Mandhana (172). Deepti is the twelfth female cricketer to have played 150 or more T20I games.
During the game against Thailand, Deepti demonstrated exceptional economy in bowling. This was the first time in the history of women's T20I that a bowler from one team took three wickets without allowing the opponent to score any runs. Her performance completely restricted the run rate of the Thai team. Despite this personal historical achievement, Deepti prioritized the team's success rather than showing excessive enthusiasm for her personal statistics.
She stated that wearing the Indian jersey and doing something useful for the country is her highest pride. Deepti also emphasized that she does not pay attention to which team they are playing against. Her main goal is to constantly improve her bowling skills and help the bowling unit. Furthermore, she noted that the central high-performance training camp helped the team boost confidence ahead of the Asian Cup. According to her, this camp gave the team a lot of confidence, and now the Indian team is aiming for victory in the Asian Cup.
