A deadline has arrived for users of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to complete an important procedure related to LPG e-KYC. If this deadline is missed, obtaining an LPG cylinder may become difficult or require payment at higher prices.
Oil and gas companies have extended the deadline for completing LPG e-KYC until August 31. This procedure can be completed remotely. It is important to note that this rule applies to domestic LPG consumers using Indane Gas, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas.
The companies have extended the deadlines twice: first from August 16 to August 23, and then again until August 31. They warned that users who do not undergo the e-KYC procedure may be deemed ineligible to receive an LPG cylinder under domestic tariffs until verification is complete. Instead of a complete disconnection, failure to complete e-KYC will lead to issues with receiving cylinders at subsidized rates, potentially requiring payment of commercial rates.
Nevertheless, consumers who have already completed this procedure are not required to repeat it.
Failure to complete LPG e-KYC will have a financial impact on customers. Currently, the cost of a 14.2-kilogram domestic LPG cylinder is 942 rupees in Delhi, 968 rupees in Kolkata, 941.50 rupees in Mumbai, and 957.50 rupees in Chennai.
In comparison, a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder currently costs 2,738 rupees in Delhi, 2,691.50 rupees in Mumbai, 2,872.50 rupees in Kolkata, and 2,906 rupees in Chennai; in some cities, the price of a 19-kilogram cylinder exceeds 3000 rupees. Losing the right to the domestic tariff can significantly increase gas expenses.
As indicated in messages sent to customers by oil companies, users who have not completed e-KYC may lose the right to receive LPG under domestic tariffs until the verification is finalized. The Ministry of Energy previously confirmed that e-KYC is mandatory for clients who have not yet completed verification.
For Indian Oil customers, there is an option to complete the process remotely through the IndianOil ONE app or in person at a distributor point, as well as through LPG delivery personnel. Aadhaar authentication is used for verification. Required documents include an Aadhaar card or Aadhaar number, a mobile number linked to the LPG connection, or the LPG consumer number/ID.
Indane Gas users must log into the IndianOil ONE app using their LPG-linked mobile number, select the e-KYC or Aadhaar authentication option, and link their LPG ID. After giving consent for Aadhaar authentication, they must undergo facial scanning through the FaceRD app and submit the verification to check the e-KYC status.
Similarly, Bharat Gas users can complete the e-KYC procedure through the Hello BPCL app, and HP Gas customers can do so quickly using the HP Pay app.
