GIFT Nifty predicts negative opening, while most Asian markets decline amid rising oil prices

GIFT Nifty signaled a possible negative opening for Nifty50. Most Asian exchanges showed declines during early trading.

According to data from August 31, 2026, GIFT Nifty indicated a potentially negative start to Nifty50 trading. This was linked to rising oil prices and concerns about potential interest rate hikes in the US, which weakened investor sentiment. Futures traded at 24,239 points, which is 103 points lower.

Most Asian markets were declining at the start of trading. The reason was pessimistic comments by US Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh during the Jackson Hole Symposium, which raised concerns about a possible rate hike as early as next month. Japan's Nikkei 225 and South Korea's Kospi were trading down by 1.8% and 2.4%, respectively.

Last week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 closed trading down by 0.02% and 0.3%, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite closed 0.52% lower.

Oil prices continued to rise on Monday morning after the US attacked Iranian missile installations that were preparing to send mines into the Strait of Hormuz, ending weeks of relative calm. September futures traded at $90.35, up 2.34%.

Gold and silver futures traded down by 0.85% and 133%, respectively.

The overall chart structure remains sideways as the index continues to consolidate in the range of 23,600–24,700 at close.
